South Africa has officially ranked second major to have dealt with injury blows in as many days after Lock de Jager was ruled out for up to six months with a reoccurrence of a shoulder injury that forced him out of the 2019’s Rugby World Cup final.
Lock de Jager, who will miss the Rugby Championship in Australia later this year as well as the build-up to the British & Irish Lions series in South Africa, which is scheduled to start next July, is set to stand back due to a reinjured shoulder during a play for England’s Sale Sharks last.

It was announced on Monday that key fly half, Handre Pollard also stands to face a major set back, on the sidelines after he had ruptured anterior cruciate ligament ( ACL) in his knee while playing for French Top14 side Montpellier.
“It’s not great news on Lood. He’s going to have surgery and it is probably going to be a rebuild, so will be five to six months,” said Sharks director of rugby Steve Diamond while telling reporters.
New Springboks coach Jacques Nienaber has seen the worst of his World Cup-winning squad depreciating in recent weeks.
With Lock RG Snyman also being ruled out for the remainder of the season due to an ACL injury, while Eben Etzebeth is currently sidelined with a rib problem.
Nienaber is looking to build towards the Rugby Championship scheduled to be played in Australia from November 7 – December 12, as well as the Lions series at home next year.

The Springboks have faced the darkest of days after their win last year November in Japan they haven’t played test rugby due to COVID-19 pandemic, dealing with severe injuries, as well as their home-based players, including Siya Kolisi, have been inactive since their Super Rugby teams stopped playing in March when the lockdown was implemented.
