Naomi Osaka Pulls Out Of French Open Due To Injury

"I won't be able to play at the French Open."

US Open champion Naomi Osaka has pulled out of the French Open, which is scheduled to start on 27 September, due to hamstring injury.

Naomi Osaka, a Japanese player won her second US Open, and third Grand Slam title, with a 1-6 6-3 6-3 victory over Victoria Azarenka in New York this past Saturday.

“I won’t be able to play at the French Open.” Naomi Osaka said in a statement:

“My hamstring is still sore so I won’t have enough time to prepare for the clay. These two tournaments came too close to each other for me.”

The young tennis player won against Azarenka in the final at Flushing Meadows with her hamstring wrapped in tape.

With the title of world number three, she won the Australian Open in 2019, yet could not climb over the third round at Roland Garros.

Ashleigh Barty who holds the number one world title, pulled out of the tournament due to coronavirus restrictions earlier this month, announced that she won’t be defending her French Open title.

With an unfortunate knee injury, twenty-time Grand Slam winner Roger Federer, who is still recovering from knee surgery, is the most high-profile absentee in the men’s draw at the French Open.

Adhering to the coronavirus restrictions, the French Open organisers had to cut down the number of fans to 5 000 who are allowed or rather permitted to attend on Thursday.

Due to the pandemic still, the dates of the Paris tournament have been rescheduled from its original start date 24 May.
