Las Vegas Aces star A’ja Wilson has been awarded the 2020 WNBA Most Valuable Player, the WNBA announced on Thursday.

This is the first Women’s NBA most valuable player award for A’ja Wilson, the player who was named 2018 WNBA Rookie of the Year and a WNBA All-Star selection in 2018/2019.

Wilson received 43 of 47 first place votes and 458 total points from a national panel of sportswriters and broadcasters.

The Seattle Storm forward Breanna Stewart, the 2018 WNBA MVP, finished in second place, having 308 points. Los Angeles forward-center Candace Parker, a two-time WNBA MVP, finished in third place with 219 points.

Chicago Sky’s Courtney Vandesloot finished fourth with 135 points and followed by Minnesota Lynx forward Napheesa Collier (36 points).

The players were awarded 10 points for a first place vote, seven points for a second place, five for third and three points for a fourth place and one point for a fifth place vote.

A’ja Wilson third WNBA season averaged 20.5 points, 8.5 rebounds, 2.0 assists, 2.0 blocked shots and 1.23 steals in 31.7 minutes per game over the 22-game season.

Wilson scored at least 20 points in 15 of 22 games, including a season high 31 points against the New York Liberty on august 9. The player recorded seven double-double and had two games with five blocks. She was named the WNBA Western Conference Player of the Month for the August and September, with Las Vegas posting a combined 17-2 record in those two months.

The Las Vegas Aces tied for the best record in the WNBA during the regular season and earned the top seat in WNBA playoffs.

With Wilson succeeding at both end of the court, the Aces ranked second in the WNBA in both offensive rating 107.3 and defensive rating 97.2. With the league rebound  52.9.

The 24-years-old pale was selected by Las Vegas with ten first overall pick in 2018 WNBA over the decorated and impressing career at the University of South Carolina, where she was named the 2017-18 National Player of the Year not forgetting to mention four times All-America selection and a three time SEC Player of the Year.

Wilson holds career average of 19.3 points, 7.6 rebounds and 1.78 blocks in three seasons.

In honour of being named the 2020 WNBA MVP, the player will receive $15,450 and a designed trophy by Tiffany & Co.
