London cavernous 02 Arena will host the fifth edition of the Laver Cup in September 2022, organisers announced on Friday.
Named after Australian great Rod Laver, the team even co-created by Roger Federer pits of the best players from Europe against six of their counterparts from the rest of the world. It will be held from September 23 to September 25.
“We’re excited to be bringing the Laver Cup to London, a city steeped in tennis heritage,” Laver Cup Chairman Tony Godsick said in a statement.
“The British fans love their tennis and the Laver Cup is like nothing they have seen before.”
The season-ending event will be held for the last time this November by the ATP World Tour Finals which is usually hosted by the O2 Arena since 2009.
“London has always held a special place in my heart and it’s going to be incredible to bring the Laver Cup to one of my favorite cities in the world,” 20-time Grand Slam champion Federer said.
Due to clash of dates with the French Open the 2020 edition has been cancelled after being moved from its May start because of the novel coronavirus outbreak. Boston’s TD Garden will then host next year’s event on September 24-26.
The Laver Cup was first held in Prague during 2017, then Chicago and Geneva have hosted in subsequent years.
