Top seed Daniil Medvedev suffered a 6-4 6-3 defeat by Frenchman Ugo Humbert in his first clay-court match of 2020 season at the Hamburg European Open.
World number five Daniil Medvedev struggled to find his feet on clay as he broke thrice by Ugo Humbert in a lackluster performance just fresh off his run to the US Open semi-finals.
With an excellent play that got him a standing novation, Ugo Humbert outlasted Daniil Medvedev in a 32-shot rally at Rothenbaum Stadium in the opening set and ended the game with an emphatic forehand.
The 24-year-old Russian’s focus is on making a quick turnaround at the French Open, with failure to progress beyond the first round in his previous three appearances.

Roberto Bautista Agut celebrated a convincing 6-4 6-3 victorious win over two time defending champion Nikoloz Basilashvili of Georgia.
Former world number two and fellow Spaniard Alex Corretja went on to greet Bautista Agut just after the match with some messages of support since he’s parenting for the first time ever.
“It was very tiring last week,” said Bautista Agut. “Alex knows well. I think he has three or four kids.
“I am very proud of my family and very happy to have a new baby in our lives and it was a really nice experience to live with my wife.”
