Lionel Messi Contract: Barcelona Star Is A Free Agent

St-Germain, Manchester City - this should be rush. A free agent is now one of the world's greatest players.

Lionel Messi Contract: Yes, Lionel Messi is now out of contract 12 months after his failed attempt to leave Barcelona.

In spite of months of rumor and conjecture, Argentinean super star deals expired at midnight, but did not commit itself to an extension.

Conversations about a new contract are expected to take place, which means that Messi can well choose to stay at the Nou Camp.

But he’s absolutely for nothing available for now.

Where is Messi going to be playing next season?

Spanish football writer Guillem Balague said earlier this week that in contractual negotiations, Barcelona “increased the urgency,” hoping to announce a new two-year deal by the beginning of July.

In April, the Club began negotiations and since then has met or discussed at least 10 times with Messi’s representatives.

“Barcelona is pushing for a fast solution, but negotiations are still going on and on Thursday no news is anticipated,” Balague said.

‘They want him, as soon as possible, to be signed, but the deadline for the club to keep Argentina will have to decrease its wage bill by around EUR 200m (£172m), by resolving all the details which are still not agreed, such as taxes, Messi’s salaries and the fitting of a new contract in accord with La Liga’s financial fair play rules.

“There is synergy and Messi hasn’t heard any other club before.”

The 34-year-old was linked to moving to St Germain and Manchester City Paris, where he met his former boss Pep Guardiola in Barcelona, and America’s Major League Soccer.
