Tokyo Olympics: Osaka & Biles Launch Their Campaigns

The second seed Osaka, who lit the flame in the opening ceremony on Friday, defeated China's Saisai Zheng 6-1 6-4, but admitted it was "nerve-wracking" to compete in her home Games.

On Sunday, two of the Games’ biggest draws were in action, with home favourite Osaka returning to action for the first time in nearly two months after taking a break from tennis to protect her mental health, and Biles competing in gymnastics qualifying.

Meanwhile, four-time Olympic champion Biles was penalized on vault and floor – where she bounced out of the competition area entirely – in a below-par performance as the United States finished second in team qualifying behind the Russian Olympic Committee.

With qualifying still ongoing, she appears to be on track to compete in four of the individual finals but will miss out on the uneven bars final.
