As Thomas Tuchel’s team deservedly defeated Arsenal, Romelu Lukaku scored his first goal for Chelsea nearly a decade after making his debut.
Lukaku, who played for Chelsea as a teenager, made his debut at the Emirates after joining for £97.5 million from Inter Milan, and he appears to have given the Blues an ominous new dimension.
All-day, his hold-up and link-up play caused Arsenal problems, and the Belgian duly gave them the lead.
Lukaku was involved in the build-up and finished the move from close range into an empty net after receiving a pass from Reece James.
James scored the second goal, slamming the ball into the roof of the net after Mason Mount’s pass, to make it two wins in a row in the league.
Lukaku almost made it 3-0, but Bernd Leno tipped his header over the bar.
Arsenal has already lost more London derbies this season than last, owing to the absence of center-back Ben White due to Covid.
It is only the third time in Arsenal’s history that they have lost their first two Premier League games of the season.
