Cameron Norrie Beaten By Borna Coric In Western And Southern Open Semi-Finals

Coric, who defeated Rafael Nadal earlier in the tournament, will now face Tsitsipas for the third time in his career and could climb as high as 29th if he wins.

In the Cincinnati semi-finals, British number one Cameron Norrie was defeated in straight sets by Croatian Borna Coric.

Coric reached his first ATP Masters 1000 final since undergoing shoulder surgery last year, defeating Cameron Norrie 6-3, 6-4 in just over 90 minutes.

In the final, he will face Stefanos Tsitsipas, who defeated Russia’s world number one Daniil Medvedev 7-6 (8-6) 3-6. 6-3.

“It was a very tough day,” said Coric, ranked 152nd in the world.

Both semi-finals were delayed by rain and Coric added: “At the beginning I was not there, I was not feeling the ball very well. Then I did find my rhythm. I started to serve better, I started to play much better and I think that was the key to the match.”

Norrie raced out to a 3-1 lead before Coric went on to win the first set in five games.

He kept the pressure on in the second set, winning eight straight points to race to a 4-2 lead before winning.

Coric, who defeated Rafael Nadal earlier in the tournament, will now face Tsitsipas for the third time in his career and could climb as high as 29th if he wins.

Tsitsipas, the fourth seed, saved a set point in the first tie-break and won the final three points to take the first set, but then fell behind 5-0 in the second.

He recovered and carried the momentum into the third set, breaking the US Open champion at 3-2 and serving out the match comfortably for his third win in ten against Medvedev.

The US Open, the year’s final grand slam, begins on August 29.
