Anderlecht has expressed regret for the actions of its supporters during Thursday night’s 2-1 Europa Conference League defeat to West Ham.

The last moments were disrupted by fans hurling seats.

When the visitors pulled a goal back with a minute remaining, one flare was fired towards the area where the Anderlecht supporters were gathered.

Felice Mazzu, the manager, said he was not present for the second incident, but a club spokeswoman denounced the actions.

“We want to apologise to West Ham,” he said. “We don’t tolerate this and strongly condemn this behaviour. We will take it up with Uefa and our own fans.”

Hammers manager David Moyes praised the move, calling it “a big credit” to Anderlecht.

Police were called in to keep the two groups of supporters apart.
