After losing to PSV Eindhoven on Thursday in the Europa League, Arsenal defeated Nottingham Forest on Sunday to reclaim first place in the Premier League.
Before England’s Bukayo Saka, who had set up the opening goal, had to leave the game due to injury, Gabriel Martinelli had put the Gunners in front with a header.
Four minutes after the restart, Reiss Nelson, Saka’s replacement, doubled the advantage with his first Arsenal goal since November 2020 before quickly adding a second.
Goals from Thomas Partey and Martin Odegaard rounded out the scoring as Arsenal reclaimed a two-point lead over Manchester City at the top, while Forest remained at the bottom after their eighth defeat of the season.
Saka took a heavy challenge from Renan Lodi in the first minute, and while he recovered to set up Martinelli, the 21-year-old needed treatment twice before being taken off in the 27th.
The sight of Saka walking straight down the tunnel after being replaced will worry England fans just three weeks before the World Cup begins.
