Kante, a midfielder for France and Chelsea, has been ruled out of the World Cup in Qatar due to a hamstring injury.
Kante, 31, was injured during Chelsea’s 2-2 home draw with Tottenham on August 14.
The club said in a statement that the procedure was successful, but Kante will be out for four months.
It went on to say that the decision to repair the damage was “mutual.”
“The midfielder visited a specialist with the club’s medical department to explore the options for his rehabilitation approach,” the statement said.
Blues manager Graham Potter stated before his team’s game against Aston Villa last weekend that Kante had suffered a setback in his recovery.
Kante, who won the World Cup with France in 2018, joins a growing list of Premier League players who have suffered serious injuries ahead of the tournament, which begins in November.
