Chantelle Cameron dethrones Jessica McCaskill to claim the undisputed light-welterweight title and became the first UK’s undisputed light-weight champion.
Chantelle Cameron of the United Kingdom became the country’s first undisputed female champion after defeating Jessica McCaskill by unanimous decision in Abu Dhabi.
Cameron easily defeated American McCaskill at Etihad Arena to claim the undisputed light-welterweight title.
With two cards showing 96-94 and one showing 97-93, all three judges ruled in favor of the Briton.
“I have faith in my team, so I knew I’d win,” Cameron, 31, told Dazn.
McCaskill is the undisputed welterweight champion who dropped down a division in search of more glory, but she fell short of Cameron’s output.
Cameron of Northampton, who improved her unbeaten record to 17, demanded a rematch at welterweight with McCaskill, 38, as she seeks to become unrivaled in both divisions.
Cameron exuded confidence throughout the week leading up to the fight, seemingly unfazed by the magnitude of stepping into the ring for a “life-changing” fight.
The Englishwoman’s demeanor did not change once the first bell rang, as she stuck to her gameplan and used her jab to set the tempo before following up with effective combinations.
Cameron comfortably won the first four rounds before McCaskill began to settle in and find her range.
McCaskill, who was defeated for the third time in her 15-fight career, was unable to turn the tide in her favor.
Cameron’s dominance was reaffirmed in the later rounds as she added the vacant WBA, IBO, and WBO titles to her WBC and IBF belts.
Cameron, the former IBO lightweight champion, increased the tempo in rounds nine and ten, entering every exchange first and ensuring she had the final say on the way out.
