London Irish Off Premiership Bottom By Defeating Newcastle Falcons

What a thrilling win over Newcastle Falcons, London Irish moved a place off the bottom of the Premiership table.

The Exiles led by six points at halftime, thanks to Paddy Jackson’s two penalties and James Stokes’ try, but trailed 17-13 early in the second half.

On his way to 19 points, Jackson ignited a comeback with a try, before Lucio Cinti Luna crossed twice either side of Adam Coleman’s try.

Irish’s five-game losing streak came to an end with the bonus-point victory.

They rise above Bristol, but if the Bears beat Leicester in Saturday’s kick-off, they will drop back to the bottom of the table.

Stokes fought his way through for Irish’s first try after 10 minutes, with Jackson adding the extras.

However, the Falcons’ pacy wing Adam Radwan quickly flew from right to left before floating a perfect pass out for Argentinian Mateo Carreras to cross in the corner to keep his try-a-game ratio intact.

Brett Connon’s boot tied the game, but two Jackson penalties put the Exiles up 13-7 at the break.

Following the turnaround, the visitors improved and Connon reduced the deficit with a penalty before a ferocious rolling maul after a close-range line-out saw Rory Pepper driven over, with Connon’s conversion making it 17-13 with 30 minutes remaining.

The pendulum swung back in Irish’s favor, with an intense passage of play culminating in Jackson crossing and converting his own score to give the hosts a lead they would never relinquish.

Jackson then switched roles, teaming up with Ben Loader to feed Argentine Luna, who cut inside and barged through two tackles to extend the lead. Coleman scored the bonus point with eight minutes remaining after Ollie Hassell-Collins’ superb kick into the 22.
