Saracens battled back from a half-time deficit to defeat Edinburgh 30-26 in their Heineken Champions Cup opener.

Edinburgh’s Luan de Bruin scored the first try, before the hosts’ Elliot Daly crossed.

Ben Earl added a second try before the break, but Edinburgh led 16-12 at the break thanks to Emiliano Boffelli’s boot.

Alex Lewington and Tom Woolstencroft secured the bonus point, but a Wes Goosen goal cost Edinburgh the bonus point.

Sarries came into the game in good form, having won their first nine league games, but it was the visitors who took the early lead at StoneX Stadium.

The visitors played with purpose and were rewarded when De Bruin powered over from the resulting line-out after opting to kick for touch rather than the posts.

Daly got the hosts off to a good start by collecting Owen Farrell’s crossfield kick and beating his defender to score Sarries’ first try, before Earl caught an attacking line-out and was driven over the line by his teammates for the second.

Boffelli’s four penalties put the visitors ahead at halftime, but Lewington scored the game-winning try when Daly switched from scorer to provider with a pinpoint kick through for his winger to catch and dot down.

Farrell extended the hosts’ lead to six points with two penalties before nearly handing the lead to Edinburgh.

Then, after turning defence into attack, Tom Woolstencroft powered over from close range to seal the victory and the bonus point, before Edinburgh claimed a well-earned losing bonus point when Goosen dotted down late in the game.
