However, Demarai Gray scored a stunning equalizer after Rodri gave the ball away during a tumultuous second half.
Manchester City threw everything they had at the visitors in 11 minutes of stoppage time, but Everton thwarted their efforts to end the year on a high note.

Manchester City is four points behind leaders Arsenal, who have a game in hand against Brighton on Saturday.
