Atletico Madrid have secured their place in the Spanish Super Cup finals against Real Madrid after beating Barcelona 3-2 in Saudi Arabia.

Barcelona dominated the first half coming very close to scoring on a number of occasions.

Lionel Messi had a powerful grounder saved by Atletico Madrid goalkeeper Jan Oblak 22 minutes into the first half.

Barcelona continued their waves of attacks on the Madrid goals but were continuously denied by Oblak who put on a stellar performance in the first half.

AS the first half began Atletico went on the offensive with Koke scoring the first goal of the game, putting Atletico Madrid in the lead 1-0 a minute into the second half.

Lionel Messi replied on behalf of Barcelona with an equalizer 5 minutes later forcing his way through Stefan Savić and Koke to go on to score for Barca.

Lionel Messi then shot the ball into the Atletico goals in the 59th minute but the goal was disallowed because of a handball after the referee consulted with the VAR.

Barcelona were a little phased by the call but came back strong as 2 minutes later Antoine Griezmann gave Barca a 1-2 lead with a goal in the 61st minute with a superb header.

It looked like Barcelona had cemented their lead with a goal from Gerard Piqué in the 73rd minute of a perfectly played set-piece, but the goal was disallowed after VAR ruled that there had been an offside infraction by Barca.

Atletico got a lifeline when Vitolo was tripped up by Barcelona goalkeeper Neto during an attempt on goals giving Atletico a corner that was taken by Álvaro Morata leveling the teams at 2-2.

As it looked like the game would be going into extra time with both teams drawn at 2-2,  Ángel Correa came through with a last-minute goal in the 86th minute that Barca keeper Neto failed to successfully block leading to the deflected shot lobbying over the keeper and into the  Barca goals to give Atletico Madrid a 3-2 win and secure their place in Spanish Super Cup final

Atletico will now face Real Madrid in the finals on Sunday in Saudi Arabia.
