The Ligue 1 match between Strasbourg and PSG has been postponed as France records 619 Coronavirus infections with a reported 7 fatalities since Friday 6 March.

Ligue 1 now joins other sporting disciplines such as Rugby Six Nations, who have had matches postponed or cancelled due to tot he ever-increasing Coronavirus.

The Ligue 1 match between Strasbourg and PSG has been postponed as France records 619 Coronavirus infections with a reported 7 fatalities since Friday 6 March.

The women’s Six Nations game between France and Scotland was earlier also postponed to also curb the spread of Covid-19.

This comes after the orders from French Prime Minister Edouard Philippe to close down all schools and nurseries in the department areas of l’Oise and le Haut-Rhin for at least 2 weeks.

PSG made the following statement in regards to the postponement:

“Following an order from the Bas-Rhin authorities concerning the spread of the coronavirus, the meeting is postponed,”

Authorities postponed the match in order to help prevent the further spreading of the Coronavirus.

With the game attracting around 26,000 fans, officials and local authorities could not run the risk of possibly increasing the rate of infections they went on to explain their decision:

“The arrival of 26,000 at the Stade de la Meinau, a quarter of which would come from the Haut-Rhin region, is likely to promote the spread of Covid-19.”

This is the Ligue 1 match to be postponed due to the virus outbreak with officials worrying the headache of rescheduling all these sporting events so that the various tournaments can end as scheduled this year.

No announcements has been made as to when the game between Strasbourg and PSG will be played.

PSG are currently top of the Ligue 1 table with 68 points whilst Strasbourg are 30 points below them at 10th position.
