Tottenham Ace Wins ‘Pilsung’ Award In South Korea

Tottenham ace, Son Heung-Min has officially completed his three-week military service. Every able-bodied South Korean man is expected to complete 2 years of military service.

The Spurs man was exempted was serving his full two years, after he won gold in the men’s football for South Korea at the 2018 Asian Games. Son excelled during his training in the armed forces.

“He received the ‘Pilsung’ prize which is one of five types of awards for best performers,” a Marine Corps officer stated. This award is given to the ‘best performer’ out of the group of 157 trainees.

The training began on April 20, on the southern island of Jeju. Son completed activities such as shooting, bayonet skills, chemical, biological and radiological training as well as individual battle skills and first aid training. Son ranked in the top five as he excelled in shooting and other areas.

However, his military service is not complete. According to The Korean Herald Son will still have to complete basic training. Also, Son must complete 544 hours of community service before 2023.

Son was able to complete his military service in South Korea while England went into a nation-wide lockdown due to COVID-19. The Tottenham forward was also able to undergo surgery and the necessary rehab for his broken arm that he suffered in February.

The Tottenham man will be flying back to London next week. As per Government regulations, he will have to self-isolate for two weeks. The Premier League is hoping to restart in the coming weeks if it is safe to do so.
