Man United’s Garnacho Scored Winning Goal Against Fulham

Manchester United beat Fulham in a thrilling final Premier League match before the Qatar World Cup with a dramatic 93rd-minute winner from substitute Alejandro Garnacho.

Fulham appeared to have earned a point in a pulsating second half at Craven Cottage before the 18-year-old Argentine raced through and arrowed a shot into the bottom corner past Bernd Leno.

Fulham’s Dan James had earlier come off the bench to equalize from Tom Cairney’s low cross, giving the hosts a well-deserved point after Man United’s David de Gea had made several fine saves.

Christian Eriksen put the visitors ahead in the first half, sliding in to finish at the back post from a low cross from Bruno Fernandes, who suffered a cardiac arrest during a Euro 2020 match for Denmark against Finland in June 2021.

But Garnacho scored the winner with the game’s final kick and gave Man United the three points.

Because of the Qatar World Cup, which begins on November 20, the Premier League will now take a six-week break, with no domestic top-flight matches until December 26.

United are now fifth in the table, 11 points behind leaders Arsenal and three points behind fourth-placed Tottenham, who have a game in hand on Antonio Conte’s team.

Fulham have been promoted or relegated from the Premier League in each of the previous five seasons, but they are well placed to end that up-and-down run as they sit ninth, having already matched their previous top-flight campaign’s five wins in 2020-21.
