Up To 60,000 Liverpool Fans Expected In Paris For 2022 Champions League Final

Jurgen Klopp said, "We are all in a good mood. If you are healthy, as the boys obviously are, life gives you opportunities again and again and in this case it is the Champions League final."

Liverpool will play Real Madrid in the Champions League final in Paris on Saturday, hoping to win the competition’s most prestigious prize for the seventh time.

Up to 60,000 Liverpool fans, many of whom do not have tickets, are expected in Paris as Jurgen Klopp’s Reds attempt to complete a treble of the FA Cup, Carabao Cup, and Champions League in their 63rd and final game of 2021-22.

Real Madrid, on the other hand, is a record 13-time winner, and their Italian manager Carlo Ancelotti is aiming for a fourth title – the most by any manager in the tournament’s history – after leading AC Milan (2002-03, 2006-07) and Real (2013-14) to European glory.

Liverpool enters their third Champions League final in five seasons after narrowly losing to Manchester City in the Premier League title race last weekend.

Jurgen Klopp said, “We are all in a good mood. If you are healthy, as the boys obviously are, life gives you opportunities again and again and in this case it is the Champions League final.”

The German coach added, “Three finals in five years is exceptional because this competition is really difficult. It is really special. We really want to give it a proper go and we will see.”

While Liverpool is attempting a cup treble, Real Madrid is attempting a league and European double after being crowned Spanish champions. Ancelotti became the first manager to win the league in all five of Europe’s major leagues when he led Real Madrid to their 35th La Liga title last month.

“Two great teams will face each other, and the one with more courage and personality will win at the end,” said former Chelsea boss Ancelotti.

The eagerly anticipated final on Saturday pits two European football heavyweights against each other. If the sides cannot be separated, the final will be decided on the spot using extra time and penalties.

While Real Madrid is aiming for a 14th title, which would be twice as many as any other club, a win for Liverpool would tie them with AC Milan (7) for second place on the list of overall champions.

Sadio Mane of Liverpool and Karim Benzema of Real Madrid are both in contention for this year’s Ballon d’Or, which is awarded to the best player in the world.

Benzema, 34, has 15 goals in Europe this season, including two hat-tricks, and is the Champions League’s leading scorer in 2021-22, while Mane played a key role in Senegal’s first Africa Cup of Nations victory in February.

Mane, 30, also helped Senegal qualify for the 2022 World Cup after winning two domestic cups with Liverpool this season. Mane, who has been linked with a move away from the Reds this summer, has stated that he will give a “special” answer about his future after the final.

Mohamed Salah stated earlier this month that Liverpool had “a score to settle” with Real Madrid after losing 3-1 in the 2018 final in Kyiv. Four years ago, the Egypt star was in tears after collapsing after a challenge by Sergio Ramos. “I want to play against them and hopefully win it from them as well,” Salah added.

Liverpool and Real Madrid have met in the final three times. In addition to 2018, the two clubs met in 1981, with Liverpool winning 1-0 in Paris. Will history repeat itself 41 years later?
