Alexis Mac Allister put the Brighton ahead after only 49 seconds, taking the ball from Douglas Luiz and slotting it in after a heavy pass from Villa keeper Emiliano Martinez.

It was the fastest goal scored by Brighton in the Premier League.

In the 20th minute, however, Ings equalized from the penalty spot after Lewis Dunk fouled John McGinn in the box.

Despite the fact that the game was relatively open, Villa were superior in the final third and continued to cause problems for Brighton.

Luiz made amends for his earlier gaffe by contributing to his team’s 54th-minute winner. He pushed the ball into the path of Ings, who tucked away a calm finish at the near post after challenging Mac Allister on the edge of the box.
