Newcastle United Win Over Crystal Palace Through Penalty Shootout In Carabao Cup

Newcastle United advanced to the Carabao Cup last 16 after defeating Crystal Palace on penalties. Nick Pope emerged as the hero, saving three penalty kicks.

Pope saved penalty kicks from Luka Milivojevic, Jean-Philippe Mateta, and Malcolm Ebiowei to help the hosts win 3-2 after a goalless first half.

The England goalkeeper stopped Luka Milivojevic, Jean-Philippe Mateta, and Malcom Ebiowei from canceling out the misses of Sven Botman and Bruno Guimaraes. Chris Wood, Joelinton, and Kieran Trippier all converted penalties.

Eddie Howe made eight changes to his Newcastle starting lineup, with Pope, Dan Burn, and Sean Longstaff the only holdovers from the club’s 4-1 win over Southampton on Sunday. Allan Saint-Maximin, Jonjo Shelvey, Joelinton, Jamaal Lascelles, Matt Targett, and Elliot Anderson all made their debuts.
